Florence L. Christiansen was born May 12, 1934 in Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Ludwig and Hilda Volquartsen Hammer. She died June 17, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 57 years.

Florence grew up in Manning and received her education there, graduating from the Manning Community High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, Florence was employed by the First National Bank in Denison until she was united in marriage to Charles Christiansen on Nov. 18, 1956 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children. She was employed in various positions in the area before taking employment with the Denison Municipal Utilities as a cashier, a position she held for more than 15 years and received a plaque for her dedicated service to the organization.

In her free time, Florence enjoyed bowling and raising Greyhound racing dogs and was a member of both the Iowa and National Greyhound Association. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband Charles of Dow City; three children: Connie Flynn of Denison, Karen Baber and her husband, John of Waverly, and Kenneth of Denison; five grandchildren; four sisters: Ruth Jensen and her husband, Ward of Manning, Margaret Bilstein of Manning, Dolores Hammer of Denison, and Dorothy Grundmeier and her husband, Donald of Westside; two sisters-in-law, Anita Hammer of Denison and Beverly Hammer of Boone.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and the graveside rites at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl served as organist for Penny Ewoldt as soloist, singing "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" and "How Great Thou Art" with the congregation singing "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were Charles Ettleman, Denny Henderson, Bob Ettleman, Dave Mahlberg, Terry Jensen and Eric Hammer.

The Walter A. Huebner & Sons' Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
