FLORENCE M. KELSEY

Graveside services for Florence M. Kelsey were held at Manning Cemetery on March 20, 1991, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Marshall Brown of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Florence M. Kelsey, former resident of Manning passed away March 6, 1991 in Roseville, California.

Florence, daughter of Henry W. and Anna (Hansen) Meyers, was born February 11, 1902, the youngest of 7 children, on a farm, northeast of Manning. As a young girl she moved into Manning with her family and attended the local schools. After high school she attended Iowa State Teachers College and the University of Chicago. She taught in rural schools in the Colorado area for three years before her marriage to Dr. Raymond B. Kelsey, a local dentist, June 14, 1926.

Dr. and Mrs. Kelsey resided in Manning until 1941 when Dr. Kelsey was called into the U.S. Army. After the war they returned to Manning and Dr. Kelsey resumed his practice. He was mayor for 2 years, from 1946 to 1948.

They left Manning again in 1948 when Dr. Kelsey was recalled into the service. Upon retirement in 1959 the couple chose to stay on the West Coast and near their son, Donn and his family. They resided in the Novato, California area for many years. They later moved to the Folsom/Roseville area and shortly thereafter Dr. Kelsey passed away, 1986. Mrs. Kelsey continued her long affiliation with Manning by maintaining membership in the local American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

Mrs. Kelsey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Donn R. Kelsey; by two grandchildren, Steven C. Kelsey and Cathy A. Musick; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Meyers and many nieces and nephews as well as many dear old friends.


Florence Kelsey is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
