Rites held for Frank Hoffmann

Funeral services for Frank Hoffmann, 86, of 604 West 17th Street, a long-time banker and operator of real estate and insurance businesses, were held at 11 a.m. Monday (April 1978) at First United Methodist Church here. The Rev. Ernest W. Larson officiated.

Mr. Hoffmann, son of John and Magdaline (Tank) Hoffmann, was born on February 27, 1892, at Manning. His marriage to Fae Cone took place on April 25, 1947, at Sioux City, Iowa. The greater part of his life was spent in Westside until 1951, when they moved to Carroll where they had resided since. He died Friday,

He was a long time banker with the Westside State Savings Bank for over 30 years. For over 50 years he had been in the Hoffmann Real Estate business in both Westside and Carroll. He also worked for the Midwest Life Insurance Co.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll and was the founder of the Methodist Men Organization of the church, of which he was the first president.

He was an outstanding horseman for many years and sponsored the Westside Horse Show which brought thousands of people to this small community from all over the country. He also had judged many horse shows all over the country. He was in the Outstanding Horseman's Hall of Fame in Des Moines, of which he was one of the founders. He was a member of the Iowa Futurity Association and was a 4-H leader for many years.

He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Westside and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are his wife, Fae of Carroll; a son, Jay of Carlsbad, Calif; a granddaughter and two great grandsons. Also surviving are two sisters, Rose Hoffmann and Mrs. Ansel (Clara) Wheeler, both of Healdsburg, Calif.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.

A Masonic Memorial Service was held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home at 8 p.m. Sunday evening by Orator, George W. Weed, Senior Grand Warden of the State of Iowa.

Organist was Mrs. Don Severin and Lee Bratten, soloist.
