AGED CITIZEN LAID TO REST TUESDAY

Slowly, regularly but surely the Great Creator is gathering into his fold, there to be transplanted in the infinite meadows of Heaven, the beautiful flowers whose functions here have ended and on Saturday, October 24th, 1931, when He called, there was a response, and the life book of Fred Berg was closed. For days and weeks loving relatives watched over a fading form that housed a soul that carried its lot cheerful and contented to the end. A man of tender heart and a quiet disposition; a good husband and father, and a true neighbor was called to his reward. He passed away at the ripe old age of 77 years, 1 month, and 15 days.

Fred Berg was born September 9th, 1854, in Treptow an der Tollense, Vorpommern, Germany. In 1881 he came to America and lived in the state of Illinois 3 years. In 1884 he came to Audubon County, Iowa, where he farmed until 1916, when he retired to Manning, Iowa. In 1905, he was united in holy wedlock with Miss Augusta Mutschall.

During the last few years Mr. Berg was often ill. He lost the sight of one eye which hindered him much in getting about. About 4 months ago a great weakness came over him. He was forced to spend his days in bed. Gradually he grew weaker until his death relieved him on October 24. He was buried from the Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Johann M. Ansorge officiating. Internment was made in the Manning Cemetery. The deceased had been a life-long member of the Lutheran Church and was a devoted Christian.

Those surviving are: His bereaved widow, Mrs. Augusta Berg; one daughter Erna Behrens of Manning; a foster son George Lott residing in Colorado, and three grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Fredricka Blohm of Audubon, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie Graves of Audubon, Iowa.
