Death of an old Pioneer
The citizens of Manning were very much surprised last evening when they heard about 5:30 that Fred Dau had just breathed his last. He had not been considered sick but had been ailing for a few days prior to his death but not thought by the family to be at all dangerous. He for the past few days said he felt bad and had been up to his son's barn on south Main street every day until the last day when he became a little worse and a physician was called, but it seemed medicine would not have any effect. Complication of lung and kidney trouble seem to be the main cause of death. Mr. Dau, was a good kind man, a loving husband and father and has many friends in and about Manning where he has resided for the past 20 years or more.

Friederich Dau was born at Bembick, Schleswig, Germany, May 3, 1841, and died April 26, 1905. If he could have lived a few days more he would have been 64 years old.

He came to America when a young man and was married in the year 1870 at Wheatland, Iowa. Eight children have been born to this union, four of which are dead. The living children are Emma Schelldorf, Anna Dau, George and Amanda, all of whom live in Manning. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church. The funeral will take place from the home at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, Rev. Ansorge of the German Lutheran Church officiating and the remains laid to rest in the five mile house cemetery (Hayes Township) beside his four children. The Monitor deeply sympathizes with the bereaved ones.
