Funeral Services Held For
Fred H. Fischer, 91

Fritz Henry Fischer, Manning pioneer, passed away at his home about noon, January 14, 1943. He had been in failing health since last summer.

Born December 29, 1851 in Hanover Germany, he was 91 years and 15 days at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 19 at the Zion Lutheran church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J. M. Ansorge in charge of the service. The deceased was a member of Zion Lutheran church.

Mr. Fischer was only three years old when he came to Iowa from Germany.
February 2, 1878 he was married to Miss Minnie Duwe at Guttenberg, Ia. They would have observed their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary next month.

Mr. Fischer spent nearly sixty years on a farm.
In 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer moved from Audubon County to Carroll county, farming south of Manning until their retirement when they moved to Manning.

During the years of active life, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer accumulated a goodly share of their earthly means. They owned 1080 acres of land in Audubon county, 160 acres in Shelby county, 240 acres in Crawford County and 160 in Carroll county—a total of 1640 acres of the most fertile land in the U.S.A.

Mr. Fischer had served his neighbors and friends as Elder in the Trinity Lutheran church for 16 years and was president of the bank in Gray for several years.

There are many of these old settlers in this community, the type of Mr. Fischer, who came here when the town was in infancy and who are still enjoying the benefits of their hard pioneer labor. These old settlers are the cream of the community, the foundation of the government, the truth and the law in themselves. Every word they uttered was law and their motto was honesty and integrity and respect for your neighbor.

Surviving are his wife, who is critically ill at the family home, and seven children, Mrs. Gus Ress (Anna), Manilla; Henry Fischer, Manning; Mrs. John Dammann (Ida), Manning; Mrs. Wm. Dammann (Dora), Westside; Mrs. Harry Schade (Ella), Manning; Herman and August of Manning.
