Funeral services for Fred Grau were held Wednesday, September 26, 1979, 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Officiating was Pastor Edward F. Heinicke.

Organist was Mrs. Dorothy Kusel.

Honorary casketbearers were Jim McGrane, Irwin Thiedeman, Julius Schroeder, Albert Halbur, LeRoy Schumann and Tim Hagge.

Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Herman Fischer, Gary Jones, Cletus McGrane, Fred Nulle, Orville Hinze and Harvey Christensen as casketbearers.


 

Fred William, son of Henry and Clara Spies Grau, was born October 4, 1901, in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools near his home and on May 5, 1920 graduated from the Sweeney Auto School in Kansas City, Mo. On October 27, 1926 he was united in marriage with Alice Lohmeier at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning by the Rev. J.M. Ansorge. This union was blessed with two children.

He returned to farming after working at various jobs, including jobs with Dultmeier's Manufacturing Company and the Great Western Railroad. Fred retired from farming at the end of 1966 and they moved to Manning several years later.

Fred was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Manning and of the Manning Fire Department.

He has been in failing health for the past several years and passed away at the Manning General Hospital on Monday, Sept. 24, 1979, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by one sister and one granddaughter.

Fred is survived by his wife, Alice, by one daughter, Marilyn, Mrs. Merlin Rostermundt of Ireton, Iowa, by one son, Craig Grau of Verona, Wisconsin, by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, as well as by many other relatives and friends.


Fred Grau is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
