Fred A. Hammer

Funeral services for Fred Hammer, 90, of Bloomfield, Nebraska, were held Saturday, April 6, 1985, at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield at 2 p.m. Reverend Phillip Hanneman officiated with burial in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers were LeRoy Hansen, Claus Eckmann, Halmut Huttmann, Harlan Koertje, Henry Boll, and Douglas Claussen.

Fred August Hammer was born on June 28, 1894, in Westside, Iowa, the son of Fritz and Emma (Neve) Hammer. He received his baptism on October 8, 1899, in Crawford County. In 1903 he came with his family to Bloomfield where they farmed northwest of town. He was confirmed in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Bloomfield.

On October 9, 1918, he was united in marriage to Emma Jensen, and he became a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomfield. They were the parents of two sons, Dale and Darrell.

In 1949 Fred and Emma retired from farming and moved to Bloomfield. For the past five years they have been residents of the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Center.

After a short illness and hospitalization at Lundberg Memorial Hospital, Creighton, he died April 4, 1985, at the age of 90 years, nine months, and seven days.

Survivors include his wife, Emma; sons Dale of Creighton and Darrell of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three sisters, Leona Wagner, Ramilda Downie, and Mamie Schwartz, all of Bloomfield; one brother, Henry of Bloomfield; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
