Funeral services were held for Freda Meta (Rostermundt) Schwanz Koenck Wednesday, May 11, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.

Reverend Kurt Kaiser officiated the service with Karen Kahl as organist. Casketbearers included Freda's grandchildren and their spouses, Sherri and Dave Blair, James and Joyce Schwanz, Marni Schwanz, Brian Schwanz, Marc Schwanz, Melissa Schwanz, and Melinda Schwanz. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa.

Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Freda Meta (Rostermundt) Schwanz Koenck was born at Decatur, Nebraska, April 30, 1915, the daughter of Julius and Meta (Klevemann) Rostermundt. She was baptized at Decatur and lived there until the age of four when her family moved to Manning, Iowa. She spent her formative years at Manning where she received her education through the ninth grade. Freda was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning April 15, 1930. Following her education and prior to her marriage she was employed near Boyer. On October 9, 1935, Freda was united in marriage with Herman Schwanz at Carroll, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Vail until 1949. Freda then moved to Glendale, Arizona and on December 25, 1951, she was united in marriage with Albert Koenck at Glendale. They made their home at Boyer, Iowa.

Albert died May 21, 1970, and Freda remained at Boyer. In 1971, she moved to Manning where she was employed at the Manning Plaza for two years. She then lived in Carroll for three years and was employed at General Electric there. In 1976, she returned to Manning where she resided until 1980, when she moved to the Oakwood Apartments in Denison where she had since resided.

Freda died Sunday, May 8, 1988, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her passing she had reached the age of 73 years and 8 days.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and the Ladies Aid of the church.

Including her parents and her husband Albert, Freda was preceded in death by one son, James who died at the age of three October 25, 1947, and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Schwanz.

Freda is survived by her children, Albert Schwanz and wife Jolene of Odebolt, Iowa, Glen Schwanz of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry Schwanz and wife, Janet of Aurelia, Iowa, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers and their wives, John and Lottie Rostermundt of Phoenix, Arizona, Carl and Inez Rostermundt of Manilla, Leo and Elizabeth Rostermundt of Englewood, Colorado, three sisters, Marie and husband Fred Nulle of Manning, Iowa, Elsie Mohr of Carroll, Iowa, Viola Gudykrunst of Glendale, Arizona, and her stepchildren, Lloyd and Trudy Koenck and family of Buena Park, California, Betty and Donald Zimmer and family of Kiron, Iowa, Vernie and Lorraine Koenck and family of Lake City, Iowa, Norma and Jerry Fineran and family of Denison, Iowa, Ray and Jean Koenck and family of Evergreen, Colorado and Mary Lou Koenck and family of Vail, Iowa. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
