Every blade in the field
Every leaf in the forest
Lays down its life in its season
As beautifully as it was taken up.

Fredda Hinz
Fredda Joy, daughter of Fred and Lulu (Clark) Haase, was born December 21, 1904, on a farm near Eldora, Iowa. The family lived in Sioux Rapids for a short time. Fredda grew up in nearby Zearing where she attended school. After graduating from Zearing High School in 1922, she began her studies at Drake University in Des Moines. Following her graduation in 1924 with a degree in education, she taught English at Manning Junior High School.

On June 22, 1927, Fredda was united in marriage with Harry Hinz at Council Bluffs. They were the parents of one son, Roger, and made their home in Manning. After her marriage, she continued to substitute teach for a time and was a part-time school librarian. Fredda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Esther Circle leader and holding offices in the Presbyterian Women. She was also active in Eastern Star and P.E.O. Fredda belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Manning Woman's Club. She was very interested in education and served on the Manning School Board. Fredda was the city librarian for almost 30 years and was a dedicated reader herself. She always enjoyed playing cards and knitting.

Fredda was able to remain in her home after the death of her husband on September 1, 1982. Her son was her caregiver when her health began to fail. She became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning in mid-2005 and died there on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the age of 101 years and 20 days.

Preceding Fredda in death are her parents, husband, and brother Russell Haase.

She is survived by her son Roger Hinz of Manning, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
