Death of Frederick Israel, Manilla, Occurs Sunday, August 12
Manilla, Iowa, August 15, 1933

Mr. Frederick Israel died Sunday morning at the home of his son, Rev. Frederick C. Israel.

Frederick Israel was born September 5, 1855, in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Germany. He was the oldest son of a family of 13 children. In earliest infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith and at the age of 15 years renewed his baptismal vows, remaining true to his faith unto the end. Up to the time of his marriage he remained in Germany.

On the 15th day of October 1880, he was united in holy wedlock to Wilhelmine Berlin. Shortly after their marriage the young couple sailed for America, locating in Chicago and making their home there.

Four children were born to them, three of whom are left to mourn his departure. In March 1910, his wife died and a little more than two years ago the eldest daughter, Mrs. Minnie Schroeder, preceded him in death.

For a number of years after the death of his wife, the deceased maintained his home. However, in 1918, he broke up housekeeping and went to live with his son in South Dakota, where he remained up to the year 1931, when he went to make his home with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Louise Gender, in Des Plaines, Illinois, came to Manilla at

Christmas time of last year to make his home with his oldest son, Rev. F.C. Israel.

A year ago last February the deceased suffered a slight stroke, from which he recovered almost entirely.

About four months ago he suffered a second stroke. Though seemingly recovering somewhat from this last affliction and being able to help himself and to be out of doors, he was never-the-less left an invalid, the stroke having affected his speech and left him very feeble physically. Two weeks ago last Saturday he took to his bed again, complications having set in and on Sunday morning of this week he fell asleep in faith in his Redeemer and Savior.

The deceased is mourned by three children, Fred of Manilla, William of Yale, South Dakota, Mrs. Louise Gender of Des Plaines, Illinois, besides 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers live in Chicago and a number of brothers and sisters in Germany.

Funeral services were held in Trinity Lutheran Church at Manilla Tuesday afternoon, August 15th, conducted by Rev. John Ansorge of Manning, Iowa. Pallbearers were Carl Kittler, Gus Ress, Ed Hamann, Edwin Wenzel, Hugo Wenzel and Ernest Wenzel. The remains will be taken to Chicago and laid beside those of his wife
