Frederika Boyens

Frederika, daughter of Jesse and Freda Rohr, was born at Brettstadt, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, March 27, 1866, and passed away at Manilla July 1, 1934, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 4 days. In early life she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and remained true to its teachings until death. She was a faithful attendant at church services until recent years when her health did not permit her venture from the home.

At the age of 21 years she came to the United States to make her home, settling in Council Bluffs. In June 1887, she was united in marriage with William Boyens, who survives her. The marriage occurred at Denison and the young couple took up housekeeping at Aspinwall, where they made their home for a number of years. Later they lived in Walnut and Irwin. About 36 years ago they located in Manilla.

Mrs. Boyens was the mother of seven children, six of whom survive. One son died in infancy. The surviving children are William A. Boyens of Primghar; Herman Boyens of Le Mars; Charles Boyens of Manilla; Fred of Gettysburg, South Dakota; Mrs. Emma Umland of Kenwood and Mrs. Jessie Todd of Manilla. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one brother, Henry Rohr, of Manning. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyens died a number of years ago. Mrs. Boyens was a kind hearted, generous neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 o'clock from the home and from Trinity Lutheran church at 1:30 last Tuesday afternoon after which the body was laid to rest in Nishnabotna Cemetery. Rev. F.C. Israel had charge of the services. Pall bearers were four sons and two sons-in-law, William, Herman, Charles and Fred Boyens and Ira Todd and William Umland.
