Frieda Ewoldt was born on a farm in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa, May 26, 1900, the daughter of John and Mary (Lorenzen) Hansen. She was raised on the farm receiving her education in the local rural schools. Following grade school she attended sewing school in Manning becoming a seamstress. On January 28, 1920, Frieda was united in marriage with John William Ewoldt at Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children, Iven, LaVonne and Lynn. They made their homes on farms in the Crawford County area until moving to Denison in 1940.

John died January 8, 1948, and Frieda continued to reside in Denison the rest of her life. Following the death of her husband, Frieda was employed at the Manning Egg Processing Plant (Priebe) and as a cook at various Denison restaurants until her retirement.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa, as an adult, May 20, 1959, transferring her membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Denison March 21, 1965.

Frieda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who had a great love for cooking and sewing clothes for herself and all of her grandchildren. She especially loved to sew Barbie clothes for her granddaughters. Frieda enjoyed people and loved to entertain family and neighbors treating them with the results of her culinary talents. She spent many hours of her life creating crafts and crocheting. She loved gardening, flowers and especially her tomato plants. In addition to her church membership she was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

On August 2, 1993, Frieda moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and it was there her death occurred Wednesday afternoon, February 26, 1997. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 96 years and 9 months. Including her parents and her husband, Frieda was preceded in death by one son, Lynn Ewoldt, one daughter, LaVonne Kluver, one great granddaughter, Anna Mae Ewoldt, six brothers, Frederick, John, Thomas, Henry, Louie and Freddie Hansen and two sisters, Rose Callender and Anna Ewoldt.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include one son and his wife, Iven and Marcia Ewoldt of Bullhead City, Arizona, one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Ewoldt of Denison, Iowa, one son-in-law, Marvin Kluver of Mapleton, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Leroy Hansen and his wife, Margaret of Bellingham, Washington, two sisters, Minnie Lamp of Manning, Iowa and Ellen Murphy of Sacramento, California, three sisters-in-law, Anna Ewoldt of Manilla, Iowa, Milda Hansen of Denison, Iowa, and Phyllis Hansen of Victor, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
