Funeral services for Gary A. Erb of Irwin were held Wednesday November 15, 1995, at the Irwin United Methodist Church with Reverend Joseph Boysen officiating. Interment was held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin with John Doyel, Bruce K. Bruck, Carl French, Jon Wooster, James Nelson and Robert Wiig as casketbearers.
Honorary casketbearers were Jason Erb, Brandon Monson, David Gaer, Sean Monson, Jeff Petersen and Michael Gaer. Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.

Gary Allyn Erb, the son of Allyn and Thelma (Wetzel) Erb was born April 21, 1942 on a farm five and one half miles east of Irwin, Iowa. He attended Jefferson No. 7 country school through the sixth grade and completed Junior High and graduated from Irwin High School in 1960. He farmed with his parents and after high school he rented some ground to start farming on his own. Gary served six years in the Iowa National Guard.

On April 16, 1966 he was united in marriage with Myrna Guth in Irwin, Iowa. To this union three children were born. After their marriage, Gary continued to farm in the Irwin area. Gary also enjoyed hunting, trapping and going to sale barns. He enjoyed sports, and both played and coached softball for several years as well as being an avid Los Angeles Dodger and Ram fan.

Gary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Irwin where he was also a member of the past president of the church board, a member of the Shelby County Pork Producers where he received the Hog Wild Award in 1983 and Pork Producer of the Year Award in 1991; the Shelby County Farm Bureau, and was on the Shelby County Cattle Producers Board of Directors.

Gary died on November 10, 1995, at the Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, South Dakota having attained the age of 53 years, six months and 20 days.

In addition to his mother, Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Huff, and a nephew, Nathan Erb.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna Erb of Manning, Iowa; his children - Rhonda Erb of Saipan; Brian Erb of Irwin and Kevin Erb of Manning; his father Allyn and his wife Leona Erb of Manning; his brothers and sisters, Dennis and his wife, Judy Erb, of Irwin; Roger Erb of Manning; Sharon and her husband, Dick Monson, of Harlan, Iowa, and Diana and her husband, Bill Barton, of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dan Huff, of Harlan; a step-brother, Tom and his wife, Cheryl Ferry, of Harlan and a step-sister, Linda and her husband Dennis Wildner of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
