Services Held For George Buck
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church here for George Buck, 86, who died June 11, at St. Anthony Hospital at Carroll, where he had been a patient 10 days.

The Rev. Theo A. Mansen, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Denison, officiated. Mrs. Harvey Freese was organist. A male quartet, Wayne Jane, David Freese, Glen Freese and Earl Flink sang the hymns "When I Come To the End of the Long, Long Road" and "Ivory Palaces." Pallbearers were A.H Steiner, Emil Dettbarn, Juergen Luetje, Carl Segebart, K.A. Doyle and Earl Brown. Burial was in the Westside Cemetery.

Mr. Buck, son of William and Mathilda (Bentner) Buck, was born May 7, 1867, at Garnavillo, Iowa, came to this community at the age of six years. He attended the Westside schools. He was a farmer in the community until his retirement.

On November 29, 1893, he was married to Emelie Jahn at Denison. They had two sons, Roy, and Arlo, both of whom met tragic deaths. Roy was killed in an automobile accident, in 1921 at the age of 26 and Arlo drowned during a fishing trip near Adel in 1943.

Mr. Buck is survived by his granddaughter, Virginia, now Mrs. Robert Kendrick of Washington, Iowa, and two great-grandchildren, Tommy and Kathleen Kendrick of Washington, and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arlo Buck, who had cared for him since the death of his wife in 1935.

He is also survived by three sisters, Cecelia, Mrs. John Gettman, Kennebec, South Dakota, Ella, Mrs. Merle Roe, Winton, California, and Mrs. Linda Quible, Valentine, South Dakota.

Preceding him in death, besides his wife and two sons, were his brother, Herman J. Buck, Westside, and two sisters, Emma (Mrs. Henry Bartels) of Carroll, Nebraska, and Martha (Mrs. Adolf Bruggeman) Elk Point, South Dakota.

Mr. Buck was a member of the Germania Verein of Westside. In his younger years he had belonged to the Westside Fire Department.

Among those attending the rites from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kendrick and children, Tommy and Kathleen of Washington; Mr. and Mrs. John Gettman, Kennebec, South Dakota; Mrs. Linda Quible, Valentine, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hyldahl and Adolf Bruggeman, Elk Point, South Dakota; Mr. and Mr. Carl Pohlman, Hartley; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Foster and C.W. Foster, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. William Frederickson, Storm Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Frederickson, and Malinda Koch, Schleswig; Mrs. John Buck and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kahl, Denison; and many other relatives and friends from the surrounding community. Also Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Pfannkuch and daughters of Lake View, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. William Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. John Schelldorf, Manning, Emil Vogt and daughters, Minnie and Edna, Denison.
