Funeral services for George J. Dethlefs, 79, Manning businessman, were held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning, November 24, 1969, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with Rev Robert Rushing of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Son of George and Margaretha (Pepper) Dethlefs, he was born at Manning on August 2, 1890, and attended schools here.

He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for two years.

On December 16, 1914, he married Ida Roggendorf, and the couple lived in Alton, returning to Manning in 1922, where they operated a dry cleaning business (Klean Klose Shop).

Mr. Dethlefs suffered a stroke early Friday morning, November 21, and died that evening at Manning General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Fred. He is survived by his wife; a son, Kenneth Dethlefs; and daughter, Mrs. William F. (Bernice) Ohde, both of Manning; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Emil Dethlefs of Hastings, Nebraska; two sisters: Mrs. Dewey (Helen) Voss of Fort Dodge, and Hilda Dethlefs of Sioux City.

Mr. Dethlefs was a former member of the Manning Fire Department and a member of its championship running team.
