George Thomas, son of George Thomas and Martha Jane (Parker) Doyel, was born August 17, 1932, at the family home in Botna, Iowa. George attended rural school and was taught by his older sister Thelma for the first three years. He continued in rural school through the eighth grade and then went to Manning High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. After completing his education, George started working with his father on the family farm.

On August 2, 1950, George was united in marriage with Barbara Ann Robertson at the Methodist Church in Manilla. George and Barbara were the parents of two children. They were on the farm a couple of years, then George started trucking with his brother Elmer and the family moved to Manilla. In 1963 they moved back to the farm. George retired from farming in 1994 and began driving truck for MJM Enterprises, then Gene Fenton until 2006. They sold their acreage in December of 1998 and moved into Manning.

George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He and his wife wintered in Texas for a lot of years and enjoyed fishing there. Over the years, they did a lot of traveling with friends and in earlier years were very active in square dancing and bowling. They especially enjoyed watching their son and grandchildren participate in sporting events and dance recitals.

When George started having trouble with his health, he spent time in and out of the hospital for a number of years. In July of 2012 he became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home for just a few months, before settling at St. Anthony Nursing Home Alzheimer Unit where he died on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 23 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; son in infancy; brothers, Elmer (Leona) Doyel and Leslie "Curly" (Mildred) Doyel; sister, Mildred (Virgil) Crouch; brother in law Wade Mohr and sister in law Myrna (Bob) Murray.

George is survived by his wife Barbara Doyel of Manning; two children Tom (Denise) Doyel of Manning and Diana (Dennis) Jahn of Papillion, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters Thelma Mohr of Manning and Hazel Meggers of Council Bluffs; three brothers in law Donald (Marcia) Robertson of Plano, Texas, Larry (Shirley) Robertson of Lake View and Dan (Kathy) Robertson of Louisburg, Kansas; step mother in law Mildred Wenzel of Apache Junction, Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
