GEORGE E. GRAVES
George, son of George E. and Jettchen (Habicht) Graves, was born August 23, 1914, in Denison, Iowa. The family made their home near Arcadia and moved to Manning in 1923. George graduated from Manning High School in 1933. On June 15 of that year he was united in marriage with Bernice Hinz. Two children, Kenneth and Joan, were born to this union. Bernice died in 1964. On December 9, 1965, George was united in marriage with Pauline Cramer. They continued to make their home in Manning.

George was employed by the Manning Creamery Company from April 28, 1935 until 1971. After 36 years at the creamery he then worked at M & I Dehy, the Manning alfalfa dehydration plant, for 11 years. George was a member of the Manning Chamber of Commerce, a member and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, Manning, as well as serving as scout master for three years. George retired in 1982.

George died suddenly and unexpectedly early Saturday morning, December 16, 1989, at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 23 days.

Besides his first wife, Bernice, he was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Marietta Graves Warner.

George is survived by his wife, Pauline Cramer Graves, of Manning; by a son, Kenneth Graves and his wife, Beverly, of Perry; by a daughter, Joan and her husband, Edward Rohlfs, of Poquoson, Virginia; by four grandchildren: Eric Rohlfs, and Dean, David, and Denis, Graves; by three great-grandchildren: Tember, Danielle, and Matthew Graves; by two sisters, Arlene Hostetter, of Ames and Anetha Trecker, of Sun City West, Arizona; by a brother, Reynold Graves, of Mohave Desert Estates, Arizona; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
