George Henry Kuhse
George Henry Kuhse, 71, Long Beach, California, formerly of Manning, died of a heart attack October 13, 1961, at Long Beach where he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Quinton Mitchell. The body is expected to arrive at the Ohde Funeral Home here late Wednesday. A short prayer service will be held there at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Carl Sinning, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Kuhse was born April 21, 1890, at Arcadia, a son of Henry and Ansine (Taddicken) Kuhse. He lived and worked on various farms near Manning until his marriage to Alma Petersen on May 10, 1916. After their marriage they farmed on several places in this area until moving to the Martin Petersen farm north of Manning in 1932. He farmed there until his retirement in 1948, at which time he moved to Long Beach.

Surviving are his children, Mrs. Laverne Van Dyke, Mrs. Mitchell (Bernadine), and Glenn Kuhse, all of Long Beach; Alvin Kuhse, serving with the U.S. Navy at San Diego, California; and Mrs. Wilbur (Delores) Luetje, Westside; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dexter (Elsie) Johnson, Carroll; and Mrs. George (Lavina) Holland, Portland, Oregon; five brothers: Clarence Kuhse, Wilmington, California; Victor Kuhse, Glendale, California; Lester and Melvin Kuhse, Spirit Lake; and Henry Kuhse, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Kuhse was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Maxine; his parents, one brother, and one sister.


George H. Kuhse passed away at his home in Long Beach, California, on October 13, 1961.
Services were held at Ohde Funeral Home and interment was in the Manning Cemetery.
Ray Pratt, Masonic Lodge member delivered the oration.
George was made a Mason in Manual Lodge No. 450 at Manning on October 28, 1944, and maintained membership in the Manual Lodge until the time of his death.
