Funeral services for Gerald M. Hockett were held Monday, February 20, 1989 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marvin Arnpriester of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, Iowa officiated the service with Connie Siepker as organist and Larry Genzen as vocalist.

Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Lawrence Sporrer, Russell Mohr, Jack Lorenzen, Russell Spies, Delton Gruhn and Louie Andresen as casketbearers.

Masonic Memorial Service was held Sunday, February 19, 1989 at 7:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Gerald, son of Grant and Mollie Myatt Hockett, was born February 21, 1906 on the family farm, east of Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended school in Manning and worked on his parents' farm as well as other jobs in Manning. On August 26, 1933 he was united in marriage with Mildred Wycoff. Mildred died when their first child, Gay was born. Gerald continued to live on the family farm and on February 6, 1941 was united in marriage with Goldie Scott. Six children were born to this union. In addition to his farming, Gerald thoroughly enjoyed raising registered collies and border collies for over 60 years. He held several different offices in the Poultry Association. Gerald was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Gerald had been in failing health for about three years but enjoyed a few good months before suffering a stroke several days before his death Thursday, February 16, 1989 at Manning General Hospital, at the age of 82 years, 11 months, 26 days.

Besides his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents; by two children, William Hockett and Peggy Van den Bosh; and by two sisters, Elsie Gunderson and Alva Stirn.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Goldie, of Manning; by the following children: Gay Johnson, of Chicago; Jerry Hockett and his wife, Margaret, of Castle Hayne, North Carolina; Kit Hockett, of Manning; Tim Hockett, and his wife, Barb, of Manning; and Joy and her husband, Steve Vondrasek, of Omaha; by nine grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Gerald Hockett is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
