Gilmer Herman Anthony
Gilmer, son of Herman and Hilda Molter Anthony was born October 20, 1913, on the family farm in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home.

On January 16, 1935, Gilmer was united in marriage with Ida Gruhn at the Lutheran Parsonage in Manning by Reverend J.M. Ansorge. Five children were born to this union. Gilmer and Ida farmed in the Westside and Manning areas after their marriage. In 1957 they moved to Carroll and 12 years later moved to Denison. Gilmer drove truck for various companies during these years. After his retirement they remained in Denison until 1993 when they moved to the Terrace Apartments in Manning.

Gilmer was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manning and the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein, which he joined in 1935.
Gilmer enjoyed traveling to the western part of the United States and reading about that part of the country. He also enjoyed dancing and playing cards. However, of utmost importance to him was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Gilmer had been in failing health for nearly two years. After about a week at the Manning General Hospital he entered the Carroll Health Center, Carroll, Iowa on September 2, 1998, where he died later that day, at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
