GLADYS JAHN
Gladys Jahn, daughter of Louis and Marie (Schrum) Stammer, was born January 13, 1911, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Gladys was baptized on September 12, 1912. She attended rural school and then worked for relatives caring for small children and babies.

On December 31, 1930, Gladys was united in marriage with Hugo P.G. Jahn at Zion Lutheran Church. Four children were born to this union. Gladys was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1944. Hugo and Gladys farmed with his parents for several years and then moved to their own farm. They moved into Manning in 1960 and shortly thereafter Gladys started working as a custodian for Manning schools. Gladys and Hugo were members of Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed doing housework and gardening.

In July of 1997 Gladys and Hugo became residents of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. Hugo died there on August 28, 1997. Gladys remained in the nursing home and about a year later her health began to fail and she entered the Manning Regional Healthcare Center where she died on Tuesday, September 15, 1998. She was 87 years, 8 months, and 2 days of age.

Besides her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter Marilyn; a son Lyle Jahn; a grandson Steven Ruhde; a great-granddaughter Elizabeth Sebring; three brothers: Harold Stammer, Leslie Stammer and Milo Stammer; a sister Verna Rowedder; and a daughter-in-law Delores Jahn.

Gladys is survived by two children: a daughter Marlene and her husband Ernie Ruhde of Nevada; a son Darryl Jahn and his wife Susan of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Ella Stammer and Ilia Grimm, both of Manning; two brothers-in-law, Ruvilla Rowedder of Carroll and Amos Jahn of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.
