Glenn Hopper

Glenn Hopper, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his home in Storm Lake.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Herschel Glenn Hopper, the son of Ulys and Rutha (Hunter) Hopper was born in Speedwell, Tennessee, on May 16, 1935. Glenn lived his youth in Speedwell and received his education there, graduating from Powell Valley High School in 1953. He continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. Glenn faithfully served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps from November 12, 1954 until November 11, 1957. He was baptized and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Loveland, Iowa.

On July 5, 1959, Glenn was united in marriage to Charlotte King in Manning, Iowa. Together they were blessed with a son, Steven. Glenn and Charlotte's married lifetime has been spent in the Storm Lake community where he was a gas truck driver for Farm Service for many years. He also did some farming in the Peterson, Iowa, vicinity. In later years, Glenn was a funeral home assistant for Gary Sliefert with the Sliefert Funeral Homes.

In addition to his love of farming, Glenn also enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, gardening, puzzles, hunting, and his family referred to him as a "dandelion hunter." Family was very important to Glenn and he cherished the times he could spend with his family.

Glenn's life will always be honored and celebrated by his family which include his wife, Charlotte of Storm Lake, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Bonnie Hopper of Newell, Iowa; two grandsons: David Hopper of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Joshua Hopper of Hayti, South Dakota; brothers: Emory (Jill) Hopper of Randolph, Vermont; Jerry (Sharon) Hopper of Maryville, Missouri; and Allen (Lois) Hopper of Speedwell, Tennessee; sister, Sherrel Jo (Stephen) Earl of Harrogate, Tennessee; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Therron.
