Greg V. Hanson

Gregory Verne "Greg" Hanson, 59, Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013, in his home.

Greg was born in Finley, North Dakota, October 4, 1954, to Verne and Ardelle (Schwartz) Hanson. He had a gregarious personality, an enormous heart and a great love for family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and skilled hunter. His favorite pastimes were watching and attending sporting events, downhill skiing, camping, traveling and cooking.

Greg graduated from Finley High School in 1972. He attended Moorhead State and Concordia College where he received a degree in Hospital Administration. He worked as the Hospital Administrator at Audubon County Hospital, Iowa, from 1980 to 1983. He then took the position of Hospital Administrator at Manning General Hospital and Plaza in Manning, Iowa (1983-1989). At this time, he received his Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota. In 1989 he became President and CEO of Mercy Hospital in Valley City, North Dakota. In 2002, He became President and CEO of Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks. Over the course of his work he was a Chairman for the North Dakota Hospital Association and member of the North Dakota Long Term Heath Care Association.

Greg married Stella Nolz in October of 1980. She survives along with son, Grant Hanson, Grand Forks; daughter, Logan Ann Hanson, Austin, Texas; sister, Judy Hanson, Baxter, Minnesota; brothers, Rick (Laura) Hanson, Duluth, Minnesota, Larry (Sue) Hanson, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and mother-in-law, Anna Nolz.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and by his father-in-law, Martin Nolz.

Greg was a donor and through Lifesource, may have helped up to 60 people with his gift. He would like to have others consider becoming a donor and sharing these wonderful gifts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Valley Memorial Homes.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks and will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Finley, North Dakota.
