THE TIE IS BROKEN
February 26, 1914 Manning Monitor

Hans Kuhl is dead. He ended his long and useful life, on Friday, February 20, 1914, aged 93 years, 4 months, and 25 days. His aged wife still remains. She is past 94 years old.

It is doubtful if an aged couple like this one could be found in Iowa. Since February 15, 1846, Mr. and Mrs. Hans and Anna (Kruse) Kuhl lived a happy life together. Both were born in Germany, he September 26, 1820, she October 9, 1819. They came to America March 28, 1876. In 1884 they settled in Crawford County where they have since resided. Up to a year ago he enjoyed remarkably good health. The past year he seemed to decline, and his last week was a peaceful declining into the slumber of death. His last hours were peaceful and death came as easily as a deep sleep.

Two sons, Henry Kuhl, of Manning, and Claus Kuhl, of Manilla, his wife, formerly Antje Kruse, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren besides a large circle of acquaintances survive him.

At the funeral held Sunday, the following near relatives acted as pall bearers, Rudolph Kuhl, Charles Kuhl and Henry Jansen, the two sons and son-in-law of Henry Kuhl; and Theodore Kuhl, Henry Kuhl and Albert Hamman, the two sons and son-in-law of Claus Kuhl. Rev. Tillmanns conducted the services after which the body was taken to Iowa Township Cemetery and laid to rest.

It is sad to think of the parting of this aged couple so long joined together. Their life was a happy one. They enjoyed many wedding anniversaries. They lived to enjoy a full life.

Their parting is made necessary by the will of God. Sometime his good wife will leave us to join him who was so much to her in this life.

Note: Hans & Anna are buried in the Iowa Township Cemetery in Crawford County between the towns of Aspinwall & Manning.
