Harold Harry, son of Carl and Bertha Rudnick Beck, was born February 7, 1918, in Audubon County, Iowa. He attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Audubon County and then graduated from Gray High School in 1935.

After he finished his schooling he farmed with his father. Harold was drafted into the United States Army in 1942. He served in Africa, Sicily, and Italy in the 476th Ordinance Evacuation of the Fifth Army. He received his honorable discharge in October of 1945. Later that year, on December 15, 1945, Harold was united in marriage with Alice Musfeldt at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They lived on the Beck family farm for eight years, farmed in Crawford County from 1954 to 1967, and in Carroll County from 1967 to 1978. After their farm sale in 1978 they moved to California where he and his wife managed apartments in Clovis for 19 '/ years.

Harold enjoyed bowling and fishing, including deep-sea fishing while in California. Harold and his wife traveled all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Europe and China. Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Omaha and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Because of Harold's failing health, he and his wife retired and moved to Omaha, Nebraska in July of 1997. Harold died Monday, October 5, 1998, at the Hospice House in Omaha, NE at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 28 days.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Russell, in infancy, and Dennis, in 1970; a brother Don Beck; and a sister Elloween Beck.

Harold is survived by his wife Alice Beck of Omaha, NE; children: Judy Kelly of Fresno, CA; Robert Beck and his wife Jennifer of Omaha, NE; Paula and her husband Jim Willett of Cedar Rapids; Chrissie and her husband Kris Lettow of Broomfield, CO; Marsha Beck of Golden, CO; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Lydia Ahrendsen of Exira Care Center; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
