DEATH.
At the remarkable old age of 89 years, Mrs. Harriet Halley passed away on Wednesday evening at the home of her son, William Halley, in this city. Her passing away was like unto one who had laid down to take a peaceful slumber at evening time, there was no struggle, no pain; the body was merely worn out, the sands of life were exhausted.

Mrs. Harriet Halley was born in Virginia, on the Shenandoah Valley, in 1810. While yet in her early teens, the family moved to Ohio, where the daughter grew to womanhood and was married to John Halley, October 6, 1831. Later, the couple came to Iowa, settling down on a farm near Maquoketa, Jackson County. Some twelve years ago they removed to this vicinity. The deceased was the parent of seven children, six of whom survive her, five sons and one daughter. They are G.W. Halley, Perry; B.F., Dewitt; J.W., Stuart; James Carroll; William, Manning; and Mrs. Harriet Perry, Bristow, Iowa. The husband and father died four years ago.

The funeral was held this morning at ten o'clock from the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Z.W. Steele, who officiated at the burial of the husband, preached the sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery, beside those of the one who preceded her.

No record of Harriet Halley is found in the Manning city or tombstone records.
