Funeral services for Harry Fischer were held Monday, February 12, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Carl Noble of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa officiated the service with Helen Ohde as vocalist and Connie Siepker as organist.
Interment was held in Manning Cemetery with Chris Saunders, Johnathan Saunders, Matt Saunders, Willis Umland, Larry Schwartz and Marvin Bissen as casket bearers.
Harry Henry, son of August and Amelia (Fuss) Fischer, was born May 18, 1918, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He grew up near Audubon and attended rural school. After his schooling, Harry worked on the family farm.
On April 30, 1943, Harry was united in marriage with Melba Felt in Omaha, Nebraska. One daughter was born to this union. Harry and Melba farmed the home place with Harry's father. Melba died November 30, 1965.
On December 9, 1968, Harry was married to Valdean Larson Peters in Atlantic. Harry and Val-dean also remained on the family farm. In 1975, Harry's father died and in 1977, Harry and Valdean moved to a farm near Manilla. They moved to their present home in Arcadia in 1998.
During his retirement, Harry enjoyed working at Gruhn Hybrid, visiting with friends and going out to eat.
On Friday, February 9, 2001, Harry suffered a heart attack at home and died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. He was 82 years, 8 months and 22 days of age.
Besides his parents and first wife, Harry was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Max Fischer.
He is survived by his wife Valdean Fischer of Arcadia; daughter, Patricia and her husband, Doug Saunders, of Manilla; grandchildren: Jennifer, Chris, Johnathan and Matt Saunders; step-children: Mary and her husband, Gary Erps, of Arcadia;
Chuck Peters and his wife, Gail, of Maryland; and Tim Peters and his wife, Vickey, of Missouri; seven step-grandchildren: Marybeth, Andrea, and Corey Erps; and Zach, Alicia, Crystal and Jodean Peters; and by other relatives and friends.
