Harry H. Jansen

Funeral services for Harry H. Jansen were held Tuesday, November 17, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa.

Pastor Curt Dwyer and Pastor Daniel Vogel officiated the service with Carlys Stribe as organist.

Interment was held at Manning City Cemetery with Tim Jansen, Bill Ranniger, Gaylin Ranniger, Russell Ranniger, Ted Jansen, and Gaylord Moeller as casketbearers.

Harry Henry, son of Henry and Anna Kuhl Jansen, was born July 13, 1911, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home and then Manning High School. In March of 1929, Harry was baptized and confirmed and became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Harry started working as a carpenter on the railroad after he completed his schooling. On September 8, 1937, he was united in marriage with Irene Ranniger at the Lutheran Parsonage in Manning. Five children were born to this union. In 1941, Harry and Irene started farming east of Aspinwall and in 1962 moved to the farm where Harry was born. They retired from farming in 1976 but continued to live on the farm until 1991 when they moved to Manning.

Harry served as treasurer for Lutheran Layman's League for 24 years and was a church usher for many years. He enjoyed flower gardening in his spare time.

After breaking his hip on January 8, 1996, Harry's health began to fail. He died suddenly on Saturday, November 13, 1998 at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, Manning, Iowa. Harry was 87 years, 4 months and 1 day of age.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Augusta Georgius and Emma Steffen.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Manning; five children: Dale Jansen of Des Moines; Randall Jansen of Denver, Colorado; Curt Jansen of Fort Collins, Colorado; Marilyn Jansen of Denver, Colorado and Mark Jansen and his wife, Stephanie, of Raton, New Mexico; six grandchildren: Scott Jansen and his wife, Sheila; Matthew Jansen; Seth Jansen, Lucas Jansen; Kristina Jansen and Lily Amanda Jansen; one brother Alvin Jansen and his wife, Clariss, of Aspinwall; one sister, Hilda, and her husband, Averill Vinke, of Denison; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Harry Jansen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
