Harvey "Spider" Hargens, age 77, of Coos Bay, Oregon, son of Chris and Anna (Wiese) Hargens of Manning, Iowa, passed away November 30, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Harvey was the winner of this battle never once giving up that winning smile and his positive attitude against beating the disease. He stood proud and tall and it was he who triumphed.

Harvey left Manning, Iowa, to move to the Oregon Coast in May of 1949. He worked at Menasha Plywood Mill for 16 years until it closed in 1967. He worked for the North Bend School District as a custodian for nearly 23 years when he retired. He then filled his retirement days enjoying his love of western authors, playing pinochle with family, Friday night poker with the boys and traveling.

Harvey is survived by 3 daughters: LeeAnna Straney of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Karen Kay Hargens of North Bend, Oregon, and Tracy Marie Gildersleeve of Pleasant Hill, California; grandchildren Bambi Roberts, Greg Straney; great grandchildren Breanna, Justin, Skyler & Landon; sisters Arlene Leuth, Lois Crane & LaVonne Culver; brothers Virtus Hargens and Billy Hargens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harvey will forever be remembered for his bright smile, the twinkle in his eyes, his sense of humor and his positive outlook of life. He will truly be missed by loved ones and all who came to know him through the years.
