HELEN C. GRIMM

Funeral services for Helen C. Grimm were held Tuesday, May 23, 1989, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Robert Riggert officiating the service.

Paula Weiss was organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Kurt Sackschewsky, Steve Ridgley, Larry Grohs, Lance Kruse, Dave Tuttle, and Bob Chapman serving as casketbearers.

Helen, daughter of Johannes and Helena (Wiese) Schmidt, was born July 1, 1905, near Manning, Iowa. She was baptized on October 27, 1905, at Zion Lutheran Church and was confirmed on April 19, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church.

On August 28, 1929, Helen was united in marriage with Edwin Grimm. Four children, Virgene, Robert, Jeanette, and Sylvia, were born to this union. They farmed near Manning and later spent many years farming near Manilla. Helen always actively assisted her husband with farming. In the spring of 1969 they moved to Manning to make their home.

Helen enjoyed playing cards and bingo and was a member of the Pastime Club.

She had been in failing health this spring and spent many weeks in the hospital. She was also a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home for a short time. She died early Saturday morning, May 20, 1989, at Manning General Hospital at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister Rosie Puck; and by three brothers, Henry, Hannas, and Emil Schmidt.

Helen is survived by her husband, Edwin, of Manning; by her children: Virgene and her husband, Doug Burright, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Robert Grimm and his wife, Arlene, of Davenport; Jeanette and her husband, Lyell Miller, of Chehalis, Washington; and Sylvia Ridgley, of Manning; by 16 grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren; by a brother Chris Schmidt, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
