In Memory of Helen Hinze

Helen Erna Hinze was born November 18, 1921, the daughter of William and Lillian (Ruberg) Walde. She died Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine.

She attended Denison High School and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended beauty school. While at beauty school she met the love of her life, Kenneth Hinze and on September 17, 1944, they were united in marriage. The couple made their home on a farm near Gresham, Nebraska, until March of 1946 when they moved to a farm near Manning, Iowa. Later they moved to a farm near Denison. In February 1952 they moved to Denver, Colorado. While in Denver she worked at the telephone company. After retiring in 1975 they moved to Sidney, Nebraska. Finally, in 1984 the couple returned to Denison, Iowa, where they have since lived.

Helen's outgoing personality had an effect on everything she did and everyone she met. Her bright smile and infectious laugh brought a smile to your face. She loved to sew, socialize, and enjoyed her 9 A.M. Sunday morning coffee with the "Silver Forum." Other talents included being a self-taught computer technologist, genealogist and matriarch of the family. Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Lamplighters.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth. Survivors include three brothers: Raymond and his wife Clara; Edward and his wife JoAnn; and Leonard and his wife Shirley; six sisters: Ruby and her husband Paul; Wilma; Lillian and her husband Arden; Gladys and her husband Phil; Marilyn and her husband Max; and Marlene; two sisters-in-law: Leona and Vi; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Jeanette Venzke provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Borning Cry," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Serving as pallbearers were Gloria Splittgerber, Diane Sonnichsen, Karen Keyworth, Andy Yoakum, Marcia Imse, and Dale Walde. The family invited everyone to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of arrangements.
