Funeral services for Helma Kruse were held Tuesday, April 10, 1984, 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Paul Krumm officiated the services, and Fern Jensen was the organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with casketbearers Terry Strathman, Jim Hinners, Bary Kienast, Tim Kienast, Dave Rohe, and Oscar Kreft.

Helma, daughter of John and Christine (Hagge) Strathman, was born February 19, 1896, in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country schools in Crawford County,

On February 18, 1920, she was united in marriage with Henry Kruse at Denison, Iowa. They farmed, first near Manning, and then many years near Westside. In 1959, they retired and moved into Manning. Henry died June 30, 1971.

When she was able, Helma was active in the Manning Hospital Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, and the Dorcas Society.

In August of 1982, Helma entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died there on Friday, April 6, 1984, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 17 days.

Besides her husband, Helma was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters: Hilda Kruse, Etta Ossenkop, Laura Mulligan, and five brothers: Jack Strathman, Harry Strathman, Lee Strathman, Elmer Strathman, and Woodrow Strathman.

Helma is survived by three daughters: Virgene (Mrs. Orville) Kroeger, Neva (Mrs. Bob) Hinners, and Genelle (Mrs. Leland) Kienast, all of Manning; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Viola Copeland, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Ruby Brandhorst, Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Helma Kruse is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
