H.E. Kuhl died following car accident May 18, 1960.
Funeral services for Hinrich Edmund Kuhl, 82, were held or Saturday afternoon from Zion Lutheran church with burial it the Manning cemetery. Pallbearers were Hugo P.G. Jahn Lester Meggers, Louie P.H. Jahn Wilbur Anthony, Wayne Jahn and Roy Jahn. Pastor G. Eschenbacher was in charge.

Son of Marcus and Anna Kuhl, he was born on February 14, 1878, in Iowa Township. He attended country schools and Manning High School then attended Normal College at Denison.

He assisted his father in farming. On March 23, 1904, he married Anna Jahn at the home of her parents in Hayes Township.

The couple farmed for one year, then moved to their present home where they had farmed since. Mr. Kuhl retired from active farming ten years ago but continued to live on the farm with his son, Marcus and family.

Mr. Kuhl was involved in a slight auto accident on Wednesday morning and was taken to the local hospital. His injuries were not believed serious but he died suddenly on Wednesday evening at 7:00, apparently of a heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers in infancy.

He is survived by his wife and six children: Mrs. Hugo (Elsie) Wilhelm, Westside; Herbert, Manning; Mrs. Ray (Melvina) Vollstedt, Manning; Marvin and Marcus of Manilla; Mrs. Virtus (Katherine) Vollstedt, Manning; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Carl H. Kuhl, Manning.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and in former years was active in community affairs. He assisted in organizing the South Crawford REA and served as one of its first directors.


Henry Kuhl is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
