HENRY EVERS DIES
August 28, 1913 Manning Monitor

Henry Evers was born in Holstein Province, Germany, about 67 years ago, died in Clarinda, Iowa, August 22, 1913. He came to Manning from Germany about 30 years ago and has lived in or near Manning ever since except about three years ago which he spent in South Dakota. He returned to Manning last winter, not feeling well at that time, and after four or five months he went to the hospital in Carroll, where he remained nearly a month. The last few weeks of his life he spent in Clarinda and it was here he finally yielded to the Grim Messenger of Death. The body was shipped to Manning, where it was met by many of his old friends and by then it was escorted to the cemetery.

Brief services were held at the grave conducted by Rev. E.B. Scoggan and the body was lowered to its last resting place by loving and mindful friends. Mr. Evers was a man most highly esteemed, by everybody. He was a friend to all. He was a hard working industrious and conscientious man and endeavored to do his duty in everything. Mr. Evers was never married. He had no relatives near Manning.

He had two sisters in New York State, one in Germany and one in Brazil, South America, and four brothers in Germany. None of these were able to be present during his last illness or at his funeral. Mr. Evers always remembered his native country and made two or three visits to Germany during the 30 years he lived near Manning. Mr. Evers' business affairs will be looked after by his friends here in proper form.
