Henry Ewoldt, 101, Dies Sunday Night

Manning (THNS) — Henry Ewoldt, former Manning business man, who had attained the age of 101 years died Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martin Myrtue, in Harlan.

The body is at the Ohde Funeral Home here, awaiting the completion of funeral arrangements. Services will probably be held Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Ewoldt was born March 5, 1841, at Bendfeldt, Probstei, Holstein, Germany. When a small child his parents took their family to Krumbeck, where he studied under the teacher, Thiessen. He was confirmed at Schoenberg by Pastor Mare.

Mr. Ewoldt later learned the shoemaker's trade in the city of Kiel. He followed this occupation in his native land until 1864, when he came to the United States and located at Davenport, where he took up farming.

Wed in 1866
In the Year 1866 he was married to Miss Dorothea Vinke of Davenport. They farmed for a short time near Arcadia in Crawford County, moving to Carroll County in 1878. They lived in Manning for sixty years, coming here when the town was in its infancy.

Mrs. Ewoldt died in 1934.
Surviving are seven daughters and one son: Mrs. Fred Boettger, Denison; Mrs. C. J. Claussen, Manning; Mrs. Frank Meier, Harlan; Mrs. John Schumann, Westside; Mrs. Martin Myrtue, Harlan; Henry Ewoldt, Oakland, Ia.; Mrs. Detlef Wunder, Dysart, and Mrs. Richard Schroeder, Davenport. There were fourteen children in the family. Five died in infancy and a son, William, in 1938.

Mr. Ewoldt leaves eighty-six descendants. Additional to his children above named, there are thirty-five grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Three-Quarter Century Club.
