HERBERT MAX HASS
Herbert Max Hass, 77, a former building contractor, died Monday, June 4, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with the pastor, the Rev. Paul Krumm, officiating. Andrea Puck will be organist and a quartet composed of Paula Krumm.
Margaret Backhaus, Ken Puck and Larry Genzen will sing. Burial, under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning, will be in the Manning Cemetery.
Serving as active casketbearers will be Amos Lohmeier, Gerhardt T. Voge, Bob Hoffmann, Willis Puck, Ronnie Hiatt, and James Switzer. Honorary bearers will be Henry Grelck, Al Martens, Clarence Barten, William F. Ohde, Dr. John R. Hornberger, and Ernest Grimm.

Mr. Hass is survived by his wife, Eunice. Manning; two sons: Paul and David Hass, both of Manning; two grandsons: Korbin Hass and his wife, Barbara, San Diego, California; and Duane Hass, Coralville, Iowa, and five brothers: Walter, Salem, Oregon; Carl, Lexington, Kentucky; Alvin, Spring Valley, California; John, Hyattsville, Maryland; and Glen Hass, Lucerne, Switzerland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Hass was born September 24, 1906, in Omaha, Nebraska, a son of C.J. "Hannas" and Ingeburg Catherine (Sonksen) Hass. He moved with his family to Manning while a child and attended Manning schools.

On December 28, 1935, he was married to Eunice Graham at Fonda, Iowa. They lived most of their lives in Manning. At the time of his father's death, he took over the construction business and continued in that work until his semi-retirement in the mid-1970s.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Manning Fire Department where he served as chief from 1937 to 1942. He had been in failing health for the past six months.


Herbert Hass is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
