HERMAN H. CLAUSSEN

Funeral services for Herman H. Claussen, 74, were held at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart church in Ankeny, Iowa, on Monday, September 28, 1964, at 10:00 am with the Reverend W.L. Elias officiating. Casket Bearers were Leonard Farrell, Guy Beard, Henry Tough, Wesley Hunzinger, Ronald Steilen, Rudy Messersmith. Burial was in the Glendale cemetery in Des Moines. Military services were conducted at the graveside.

Mr. Claussen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans C. Claussen, was born in Manning on April 13, 1890. He attended school in Manning. He was a veteran of World War I along with his three brothers, William, Harry, and Herbert and served overseas mostly in France and Germany. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and D.A.V.

He and Miss Anna Dietrich of Dungenheim, Germany, were married in New York City, on October 10, 1921. They have two sons, Albert of Ankeny and Edmund of Parkville, Missouri.

Mr. Claussen owned and operated the Claussen Transfer Company in Manning from 1920 to 1944 when he purchased a farm near Winterset, Iowa. He continued to farm there until his retirement a few years ago. In June 1961 they moved to their new home in Ankeny where they have since resided.

He had been in ill-health the past several years and became seriously ill last week, entering the Veterans hospital in Des Moines on Wednesday and passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept 25 from a fatal heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bertha (Mrs. Gus E. Holmberg) and Ella (Mrs. Delbert Lane) and three brothers, Claus, Rudolph, and William and also one sister and two brothers in infancy.

Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Albert and Edmund and two grandchildren, Steven and Ann Marie and one sister, Margaret (Mrs. Herman Hoffmann) of Manning and two brothers, Harry A. of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Herbert E. of Vista, California, and four nieces and four nephews.
