HERMAN M. LAGE
Herman Lage, son of Henry and Eline Lage, was born December 19, 1890, on a farm northwest of Manning in Crawford County, Iowa.
He was baptized on August 16, 1891.
He attended rural schools and attended high school in Manning. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1904, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
On February 12, 1919, he was united in marriage with Laura Mohr. Two sons were born to this union Wesley and Walter.
Lage farmed in Iowa Township, Crawford County, a short distance from where he was born. He was active in farming until 1955 when they moved to Manning.
Lage served on the Iowa Township School Board, the Aspinwall Coop. Board, the Crawford County Soil Conservation Board and the ASC Committee. He was a long time voter and active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
Lage was preceded in death by his wife, who died on October 28, 1968.
Following her death, Lage continued to live in his own home in Manning until March of
1983 when failing health caused him to move to the Manning Plaza. He passed away at
the Manning General Hospital on Wednesday evening, November 23, 1983, at the age of 92 years, 11 months and four days.
Lage was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, John and Alfred.
He is survived by his sons; Wesley and wife, Audrey of Waverly, Iowa and Walter and wife, Ardith, of Manning. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lance Lage of Atlantic, Brian Lage of Manning, Scot Lage of Iowa City, Ken Lage of Ames and Lori Ann Lage of Iowa City. He is also survived by two nieces, Ruth Schroeder of Manning and Marian Jackson of Cincinnati Ohio, as well as by cousins and other relatives and friends.
Services for Lage were held on Saturday, November 26, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Paul Krumm officiating. Internment was at the Manning Cemetery.
Music for the service was provided by Dorothy Kusel, organist as well as singing by the congregation.
Casketbearers were Lance Lage, Brian Lage, Scott Lage, Kent Lage, Duane Karsten and Paul Schroeder.
Honorary Casketbearers were Raymond Dammann, Herbert Schroeder, Ted Vollstedt, Harry West and Chris Schmidt.
