Hilbert "Hib" Eischeid
Mass of Christian Burial for Hilbert "Hib" Eischeid was held Wednesday, October 7, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Manning, Iowa. Father James McAlpin was the celebrant with R.T. Schreck as lector. Gift bearers were Connie Segebart, Carla Eischeid and Roxanne Tigges. Music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Maureen Halbur as organist. Interment was held in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning with Kenneth Eischeid, Donald Eischeid, Larry Eischeid, Randy Tigges, Rusty Tigges, Robbie Tigges, Brian Eischeid and Bradley Eischeid as casketbearers. Tuesday, October 6, 1998 a Rosary was held at 4:00 p.m., a prayer service led by Father McAlpin and a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa.

Hilbert William, son of Theodore and Anna (Wittrock) Eischeid, was born August 22, 1918, at home, near Halbur, in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended St. Augustine School in Halbur. After completing his schooling, he worked on the family farm.

On October 1, 1940, Hib was united in marriage with Agnes Steinkamp at St. Bernard's Church in Breda. They lived near Halbur for two years before moving to a farm north of Manning. Later they purchased a farm in the same area. Hib retired from farming in 1973 and Hib and Aggie moved into Halbur and two years later moved to their home in Manning.

Hib was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. He served as a Carroll County Supervisor for five years. Hib was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Templeton. During his retirement he enjoyed driving his truck and checking on the boys on the farm.

Hib died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Manning on Sunday, October 4, 1998, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 12 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Tillie Busenbark; and three brothers: Leonard Eischeid, Louis Eischeid and Alvin Eischeid; three brothers-in-law, Frank Sextro, Cato Gephart and Pete Fast.

Hib is survived by his wife, Aggie, of Manning; three children: Roger Eischeid and his wife, Diane, of Manning; Diane and her husband, Virgil Tigges, of Carroll; and Gary Eischeid and his wife, Marie, of Manning; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Eischeid, Jr. and his wife, Jeanette, of Halbur; five sisters: Lorin Sextro of Denison, Florence Gephart of Carroll, Louise and her husband, Cecil Boeckman, of Early, Irma Fast of Bingham Lake, Minnesota, and Marie and her husband, Elmer Schreck, of Templeton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
