HILDA C. KAHL

Funeral services for Hilda Kahl were held Wednesday, May 13, 1987, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Jack Dahl of the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia officiated the service with Paula Weiss as organist. Interment was in Westside Cemetery with Arlan Jans, Marcel Hayes, James Meyer, Wayne Brus, Dale Musfeldt, and Richard Fischer as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Lt. Col. Robert Brus and Dean Hargens. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Hilda, daughter of Fritz and Ida (Schluter) Boger, was born April 3, 1895, in Paradise Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home and on February 16, 1916, she was united in marriage with Otto Kahl. They farmed in the Schleswig and Ricketts area until 1946 when they retired and moved to Westside. Hilda's husband, Otto, died December 16, 1953. While living in Westside Hilda worked in the school hot lunch program until her retirement in 1967. In 1971 Hilda moved to the Terrace Apartments in Manning where she continued to live until 1984 when she entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

During her lifetime Hilda was a member of the Zion Lutheran Churches in Denison, Arcadia, and Manning. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid in Arcadia and Westside Cemetery Association.

Hilda's first joy was her family followed by many enjoyable times playing cards with her friends.

For several years Hilda's health had been failing and she died Sunday, May 10, 1987, at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 7 days.

Besides her husband, Otto, she was preceded in death by her parents; by three sisters: Ella Schramm, Minnie Petersen, and Amanda Hintz; and by two brothers, Herman Boger and William Boger.

Hilda is survived by three children: Luella and her husband, Arnold Brus, of Manning; Helen and her husband, Roy Fischer, of Brainerd, Minnesota; and Darlene and her husband, Wilmer Wiese, of Vail; by eight grandchildren; by 17 great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Anna Koch of Denison, and Hattie Kahl of Denison; by one sister-in-law, Lucinda Kahl of Charter Oak; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
