HUGO ANDREW EWOLDT

Funeral services for Hugo Andrew Ewoldt were held Wednesday, July 25, 1990, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. Pastor Glenn Wiechmann officiated the service with Marian Joens as organist and Marlene Jahn as vocalist. Interment was held in Hayes Township Cemetery, Crawford, County, Iowa, with Randy Hershley, Eddie Meiners, Ray Ehlers, Dallas Lile, Dale Bueltel, and Dan Muhlbauer as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Louie Hargens, Alvin Schilling, Leo McSorley, Gilbert Sievertsen, Donald "Tiny" Blom, and Arthur Kruse. Prayer service was held Tuesday, July 24, 1990, at 8:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla.

Hugo, son of Henry and Sophia (Schroeder) Ewoldt, was born March 28, 1903, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Manning. He attended rural school for a year and then attended school in Manning after moving there with his parents. From 1918 to 1921, Hugo worked at the Rober-Wehrmann Store. After that he worked on various farms in the area.

January 19, 1927, Hugo was united in marriage with Florence Georgius, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Georgius, at Denison, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Stanley and Donald.

Hugo and his wife farmed in the Manning area for 47 years, 42 of which were on the same farm. He served as Iowa Township trustee for four years. In 1979 they retired and moved to Manilla.

Hugo was in the Manning General Hospital for a short time after which he became a resident of the Manning Plaza for a couple of weeks before his death there Sunday, July 22, 1990, at the age of 87 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by the following brothers and sisters: Julius, William, Henry, Emil, Olga Schrum, Marfa Clausen, Rudolph, Helma Mitchell, and Cerena Bowling.

Hugo leaves to mourn his wife, Florence, of Manilla; two sons, Stanley, of Manning and Donald and his wife, Verna, of Manilla; three granddaughters, Kathleen and her husband, Bruce Carl; Annette and her husband, Robert Wells; and LuAnn Ewoldt; two grandsons, Thomas and Lynn Ewoldt; a great-grandson, Keith Carl; many other relatives and friends.

Hugo's hobbies were bowling and card playing.
