Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home for Hugo Grundmeier Sr., well-known pioneer Manning business man and resident.
Hugo Grundmeier was born on January 20, 1861, near Lost Nation, Iowa. He received his early education in that vicinity, and later moved with his parents to Kansas.
On March 26, 1884, he was united in marriage to Kate Koepke at Carroll. The young couple began farming, an occupation in which they were engaged for about seven years. Five children were born to this union, one of whom, Ernest, preceded his father in death.
In 1891 the family moved into Manning, and Mr. Grundmeier engaged in the hardware business. About twenty-five years ago he discontinued that occupation, went back to farming for a few years, and has in recent years been living in retirement. For many years he was a member of the Manning Town Council.
Three brothers, Otto, Louis, and Ernest, and three sisters Hilda, Emma, and Clara preceded Mr. Grundmeier in death.
Three months ago he went, with Mrs. Grundmeier, to live with their daughter, Mrs. Kate Keller of Pipestone, Minnesota. While in his daughter's home he was stricken, and passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 1937, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 16 days.
His passing is mourned by his widow; four brothers, Adolph of Black Duck, Minnesota; Herman of Council Bluffs, Emil and Ewoldt of Arcadia; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Schroeder of Wall Lake, Iowa.
