Hugo, son of Peter F. and Margaretha Dorthea (Sierks) Hansen, was born August 25, 1900, on a farm in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He lived on that same farm for 86 years. Hugo was baptized on December 2, 1900, and was confirmed on March 28, 1915, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township.

On June 1, 1927, Hugo was united in marriage with Leatha Comstock by Pastor Neiting at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Lincoln Township. To this union five children, Robert, Margaret, Elaine, Norman, and Lilith, were born.

In December of 1986 Hugo moved to an apartment in Manning, residing there until the fall of 1991. On November 15 of that year he became a resident of the Friendship Home in Audubon. He died there suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, February 9, 1992 at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leatha, in 1985; by his daughter, Elaine, as an infant; by his parents; by a grandson, Gerard Hansen; by the following sisters: Hilda Fischer, Alma Miller, and Anna Pruter; and by a brother, Otto Hansen.

Survivors include his children: Robert Hansen and his wife, Ruth, of Audubon; Norman Hansen and his wife, Veronica, of Atlantic; Margaret and her husband, Bob Nygard, of Audubon; and Lilith and her husband, Valgene Kruse, of Charter Oak; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillie Hansen, of Audubon and Mollie Hass, of Manning; one brother-in-law, George Fischer, of Manning; a sister-in-law, Esther Comstock, of Harlan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hugo held numerous offices at the Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. He was on the Board of Directors and an agent for Home Mutual Insurance Association of Manning. He served as Lincoln Township trustee, on the Audubon County Farm Bureau, on the Audubon County Republican Central Committee, and on the Gray Consolidated School Board.
