HUGO PAUL GEORGE JAHN

Hugo, son of William F. and Martha (Pepper) Jahn, was born April 3, 1908, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. On August 16, 1908, he was baptized at Iowa Township and on February 20, 1927, he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He attended country school in Hayes Township, and high school in Manning. Hugo then worked on the family farm.

On December 31, 1930, Hugo was united in marriage to Gladys Stammer at Zion Lutheran Church. Four children were born to this union. Hugo continued to farm until the early 1960s, when he and Gladys moved to town. He then took a job with the Manning Schools as a custodian and bus driver, retiring in 1973.

On August 28, 1997, Hugo died at Manning Plaza Nursing Home, Manning Iowa, following a lengthy illness. He reached the age of 89 years, 4 months and 25 days.

Hugo was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Schutzen Verein.
Besides his parents, Hugo was preceded in death by a son, Lyle; an infant daughter, Marilyn; a grandson, Steven Ruhde; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Sebring; three sisters: Alva Wolf, Berniece Stammer, and Wiletta, in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Jahn, of Manning; a son, Darryl Jahn, and his wife Susan, of Des Moines; a daughter, Marlene and her husband, Ernie Ruhde, of Nevada; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a brother, Amos Jahn, of Manning; a sister, Ila Grimm, of Manning. Hugo is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 31, 1997, at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa, with Pastor Curt Dwyer officiating the service. Music was provided by Carlys Stribe serving as organist with songs "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "How Great Thou Art", and "Just As I Am". Interment was in the Hayes Township Cemetery in Westside, Iowa. Serving as casketbearers were Kim Jahn, Dana Jahn, Sue Preiss, Terri Winske, Alison Mutch, Kristen Jahn. The family wishes to express their gratitude for your kindness evidenced in thought, word, and deed.
