Dies; Worked At Paper Mill

Hugo J. Karsten, 57, of 1055 Hickory St. NE, shipping department supervisor for Oregon Pulp and Paper Co., died Wednesday at a Salem hospital where he had been a patient for one month. He had been ill since March.

Karsten was born May 30, 1901, in Manning, Iowa, and came to Salem about 35 years ago. He married the former Mary O. McFadden Oct. 27, 1928, In Salem. She survives.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Manning, and Salem Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen Stetzer, Salem, and Mrs. Carl Berg, Portland; four brothers, W. P. Karsten and W. H. Karsten, Salem, and John Karsten and Albert Karsten, Manning, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. O. Gustafson, Salem; and Mrs. Perry Walcher, Eugene, and one grandson.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Howell- Edwards Funeral Chapel, Rev. Elmer Paulson officiating. Internment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
