Hugo R.C. Hansen

Funeral services for Hugo Rudolph Christopher Hansen were held Monday, September 21, 1992, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery with Tracy Hansen, Paul Hansen, Craig Hansen, Tom Wegner, Steven Hansen, and David Wegner as casketbearers.

Hugo, son of Jurgen and Anna (Meyer) Hansen, was born January 22, 1900, at Manning, Iowa. On June 3 of that same year he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He lived on a farm near Manning and attended country schools. On March 28, 1915, Hugo was confirmed by Pastor Johann Ansorge at Zion Lutheran Church; he remained a lifelong member of the church.

Hugo was united in marriage with Emma Jentzen on October 18, 1923, at Omaha, Nebraska. To this union six children were born. Hugo farmed his entire life until his retirement in 1973 when he and Emma moved into Manning.

On February 8, 1991, Hugo became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. His health began to fail about a week before his death there on Friday, September 18, 1992, at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers: Henry J.M., John "Jack", and Herbert Hansen; and by a sister, Minnie Bruhn.

Survivors include his wife, Emma, of the Manning Plaza; his children: Herbert Hansen and his wife, Gloria, of Brayton; Helen and her husband, Glenn Mading, of Elgin, Illinois; Marjorie and her husband, Robert Wade, of Mesa, Arizona; Lyle Hansen and his wife, Lois, of Denison; Shirley and her husband, Robert Wegner, of Manning; and Larry Hansen and his wife, Leona, of Manning; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alta Hansen, of the Manning Plaza; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
