Ida Clara Anthony
Ida Clara, daughter of Fred and Amanda (Asmus) Gruhn, was born September 10, 1912, on the family farm in Shelby County near Botna, Iowa. She attended country school, Jefferson #1, near her home.

On January 16, 1935, Ida was united in marriage with Gilmer Anthony by Reverend J. M. Ansorge at the Lutheran Parsonage in Manning. Five children were born to this union. Ida and Gilmer farmed in the Westside and Manning areas after their marriage. In 1957 they moved to Carroll and twelve years later moved to Denison. Ida cleaned various homes during this time. In 1993 they moved to the Terrace Apartments in Manning.

Ida became a member of the United Methodist Church on November 23, 1947. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and visiting. However, of utmost importance to her was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ida had been in failing health this past year. She entered the Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Saturday afternoon May 11, 2002, and died there later that day at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 1 day.

Preceding Ida in death are her husband in 1998; her parents; six sisters: Lena Jansen; Ella Steen; Alma Custer; Fredia Langbehn; Anna Mahnke and Emma Gruhn; two brothers Henry Gruhn and Edward Gruhn and great grandson Austin Bailey.

She is survived by her five children: Lois and husband Lowell Stribe of Manning; Larry Anthony and wife Nancy of Arcadia; Danny Anthony and wife Eloise of Newton; Dick Anthony and wife Donna of Des Moines and Randy Anthony and wife Jacki of Denison; 11 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; a special niece and friend Bernice Potter of Manning; sister Helen of Denison; sister-in-law Elsie Anthony of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
