Ida Augusta, daughter of Gustav A. and Wilhelmina Anna (Fischer) Ress, was born September 22, 1900, on a farm in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. She was baptized on October 14, 1900, into the Lutheran Faith.

Ida attended country school near her home until 1913 when the family moved to a farm in the Manilla area and she started attending the Manilla schools. She also attended Lutheran School in Manning making her home with her Grandpa and Grandma Fred Fischer through the school week. Following her confirmation on March 28, 1915, she returned home and helped with the work there.

On January 30, 1929, Ida was united in marriage with Herman Jochimsen. They farmed near Manilla for many years and then retired to their new home in Manning. They raised four children. Ida was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. Ida was interested in tatting, quilting and crocheting. She belonged to several card clubs.

Herman died in 1991 and Ida continued to live in their home until she had a fall in January of 1998. On February 1, 1998, she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 26 days.

Besides her husband and parents, Ida is preceded in death by three brothers: Ernest Ress; Emil Ress; and Hugo Ress; and three sisters: Clara Hammer; Ella Asmus; and Pauline Lake.

She is survived by her children: Marion Ream of Manning; Winona and her husband LeRoy Rowedder of Manning; Karen and her husband Edward Bohm of Irving, TX; and Marvin Jochimsen and his wife Suzanne of Jackson, MS; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edna Hansen of Omaha, NE; Anna Hoelscher of Perry; and Norma Wenzel of Perham, MN; one sister-in-law Lucille Ress of Manning; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
