Ila Adele Dorothy, daughter of William F. and Martha (Peper) Jahn, was born May 16, 1921, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized on October 11, 1921, at the Lutheran parsonage in Denison. Ila attended country school in Hayes Township. On April 18, 1937, she was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

On September 18, 1940, Ila was united in marriage with Raymond Henry Grimm at Zion Lutheran Church. Five children were born to this union. They farmed east of Manning until 1976 when they retired and moved into town. Ray died December 4, 1989, and Ila continue to live in their home. She enjoyed cooking, card playing and gardening.

Ila was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Aid, !Friendly Neighbor Club, and VFW Auxiliary.

Due to failing health, Ila entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning in October of 2001 and died there on Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 2 days.

Besides her parents and husband, Ila was preceded in death by brothers Hugo Jahn and Amos Jahn and sisters: Alva Wolf, Berniece Stammer and Willetta Jahn, in infancy; and daughter-in-law Peggy Grimm.

Ila is survived by her five children: Dean Grimm of Manning; Curtis Grimm and his wife Nancy of Aspinwall; Bruce Grimm and his wife Mary of Johnston; Alan Grimm of Manning; Connie and her husband Dan Brasel of Dunlap; five grandchildren: Jamie Grimm and his wife April, Nicole Grimm, Natalie Grimm, Clark Brasel and Lisa Brasel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Manning Cemetery in Manning, Iowa. Susan Lamb provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock of Ages" and recessional hymn "On Eagle's Wings". Those serving as casketbearers were Myron Bogatzke, Harold Sporrer, Dale Jahn, Darryl Jahn, Bob "Beep" Ewoldt and Allen Ehlers. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.


Ila Grimm is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
